I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2012, after Adam decided to start a club in Newman. Adam convinced me that I couldn’t ask Lilly to try it, if I wasn’t willing to at least give it a go myself, at that time I was competeing in Body Building in the Fitness/ Bikini Model division and that was taking up most of my time.
Jiu-Jitsu wasn’t an instant love for me, that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy my time on the mats. My passion or desire to learn more didn’t happen till mid 2013, when I increased my training from 1 class a week to as many as I could attend – this can be a little challenging when your coach is also your husband and have a 5 yo & 2 yo to contend with.
2014 would be the year that I tested myself with competition and also the year I would learn that Jiu Jitsu had so many more lessons for me than I first thought – and much to my surprise this was the year I would earn my BLUE Belt!!!
Our club has had many changes in the last two years, but as a family our training and passion has only grown. My passion has grown so much that I now coach our Ladies Only BJJ Class and teach women’s self defence to empower the women within our community.
While I am excited for this trip and I am also terrified for the “what ifs?” but a life without challenges isn’t that difficult and if Jiu-Jitsu has taught me anything it’s to push into the unknown….
